Declatel

UPDATE. I could have sworn Christmas happens in December, but here we are in October and now you can watch the full performance:

Last month, I got to shoot my friend Kevin’s band, Declatel, as they performed at the Masonic Temple here in Salt Lake. I’ve found that live music is always tough to shoot, but the lighting, production design, and performances were so incredibly dynamic, I was able to get a lot of cool shots I’m really happy with. They are going to be streaming their performance on July 25, so get your tix for the event here.

Also, check out Declatel’s record Where the Pieces Came From here. I can hear so many different influences in it (Radiohead/The Smile, CAN, Neu!, King Crimson, Gentle Giant, etc, etc), but it all blends together into something altogether new and interesting.

I would be remiss not to also mention Jake Welch, who designed the visualizations for the show, which were projected onto the backdrop and were live-responsive as the band played (it’s hard to describe, but you’ll see what I mean if you watch the stream on the 25th…). It’s like something I always wanted to have back in my days of playing bands, but taken to the next level. It was super impressive. Check out his work here.
